Picture
On our last day of our current tour of Phillip Island Victoria, Reg, Indigo our poodle and I, visited the Red Rocks area.
Picture
The sand was clean, and where it was damp, it made a perfect barefoot running track.

Picture
The rocks make a great wind beak and families settle in on the shade side, of the red rocks, for a day at the beach.

Turning Point. 02/22/2010

Have you had a turning point in your life?
I would love to hear of your turning point, in the comments section.

I have had many. The latest one was just over three years ago.  My joyful journey is mostly told in my artslim blog.

This was my turning point and also when I began blogging.

My turning point was being so ill I was going into hospital once or twice a week due to extreme low pulse or low oxygen saturations as my lungs and heart were packing it in.
I was finding it difficult to walk, both my feet had been broken and my right leg crushed in an accident and I needed some
mobility products  to move around, even in, my own home.

I was looking at chairs and scooters in
mobility compare , and barely managing with Reg’s help (when he could assist me) and walking sticks.

Reg my husband had then and of course, still has a degenerating disease of the frontal lobe of the brain and I needed to care for him not the other way around.
Doctor told me to 'make our final arrangements this involved arranging for someone to care for my husband after I was gone.
We relocated to live 6 minutes walk from my youngest daughters so she could take over when needed. I had a couple of night time life threatening events and needed to call the ambulance when I only needed help to sit up to breath deeper and some steam, but she was out and my man was confused, so the move was still of no help to me in managing my illness at home.

Similarly, when I needed help to manage my husband when he was having a bad episode of dementia, she could not step out of the daughter role, be strong, and learn how to be the one to manage her dad's behaviour.

I also realized that the risk of having an adult with dementia under your roof is too great a risk factor to give anyone who also has the responsibility of children under the same roof.

I knew that a dementia hostel, would be the emotional and mental death, for my wonderful husband and if he was to stay well most of the time, if he was to live a good and happy life, then I had to be the one to provide the environment in which it happened.
To do that, I needed to be healthy.

There was only one part of my health situation, I knew I had the power to fix and that was my weight.
I began my joyful journey to a healthier lifestyle and becoming slim, on 28th January 2007. I have only had one slow pulse visit to hospital since then instead of almost twice a week  prior to my commitment to be 100% healthy lifestyle living, no excuses, not ‘just this once’ overeating and I learned how to be more active.  I had already been eating healthy, just too much quantity.

Illness and injury had gradually made me sedentary.

How I became active after some serious illness and injury is another story, but I did it and my health returned, conditions considered incurable ceased to be evident and my current Doctors who do not know my past medical history are very unaware of those conditions I used to suffer from.

Today as I swam in the pool, watching Reg sitting reading under the shade of a tree,  I feel so fit and well, I can hardly believe I am 63.
This afternoon, Reg and I walked on the beach and with Indigo the dog, I did seven 100 meter plus sprints along the sand.  Lol, this is the same woman was once in need of a heart lung transplant.

This is the same woman who so easily could have been wheelchair bound with feet and legs too painful to stand up on.
I know I have worked hard to be this fit, but I also know I have been blessed, with an amazing recovery and I do not take it for granted.

If through writing and telling people that you can recover from the near impossible, I can instil in them the belief that it can happen for them, then J, I’ll waffle on about my own recovery for ever. I am so very grateful that the human body has such incredible ability to heal itself given the right degree of self-nurture and positive belief.
Remember that every cell within our body is replaced, every seven years. Remove the reasons for illness occurring and degenerative illness can reverse.

These are the before picture images I used to SHOCK me into eating LESS. Obesity is NOT in your genes, I ate to much and was too inactive and that is why I was obese. NO MORE EXCUSSES..

  • Retired farmer creates new fruit
  • A cross between a plum and peach
  • Fruit said to be 'very tasty'
IS it a plum? Is it a peach? It's probably a pleach as it's a morph of the two tasty stone fruits.

Whatever it is, it's a love child of the two, accidentally created by a retired NSW farmer.

Bruce Davis from Mudgee in the state's central west couldn't believe it when he discovered he had grown a cross between a peach and a plum.

The fruit looks like a peach from the outside, but resembles a red plum when bitten into.

The unusual fruit is believed to be the first of its kind ever grown in the state.

Mr Davis grows peach and blood plum trees alongside each other and believes the peach/plum tree may have grown from compost that contained plum seeds.

"It's a really interesting piece of fruit and it's very tasty,'' Mr Davis said.

A cross between a plum and an apricot, known as a pluot, has been grown in the past, but a peach and a plum is a new combination for NSW, Primary Industries Minister Steve Whan said.

Recovery After Fire, and NEW LOCATION FOR RARE PLANT HAS BOTANISTS BUZZING 02/11/2010
1 Comment

Plants spring up
from fire disaster The Department of Sustainability and Environment has announced the surprise recovery of one of Victoria’s rarest plants which was severely affected by the Black Saturday bushfires.
The fires burnt out the only known population of the shrub Shiny Nematolepis in the world in the O’Shannassy catchment.

Just a short time ago, the discovery of a second wild population of Shiny Nematolepis,  one the state's rarest and most threatened plants, has botanists, scientists and rangers buzzing, after the only other known population was burnt in the 2009 bushfires.

While undertaking a habitat assessment for the Broad-toothed Rat, Parks Victoria Fire Recovery Officer Jo Antrobus noticed a pocket of seedlings that looked strikingly similar to the Shiny Nematolepis seedlings she had observed two weeks ago at the only other known location in the world (which is in the O'Shannassy catchment)

Two mature Shiny Nematolepis trees (approx six metres tall) and between 100 and 500 post-fire seedlings were then confirmed by David Cameron from DSE’s Arthur Rylah Institute (ARI) Threatened Species and Communities section and Neville Walsh from the Royal Botanic Gardens (RBG).

Ms Antrobus said the unexpected discovery and identification of the only two mature plants in existence was extremely exciting.

“I still can’t quite believe it.  After so much habitat destruction resulting from the fires, it’s great to see that one of the state's rarest plants has appeared at a second location. We’re rapt that it has responded so positively,” said Ms Antrobus.

David Cameron from Arthur Rylah Institute said this population will lead the charge for post-fire recovery of the species for the next five years.

“It’s an important discovery,” said Mr Cameron. “We’re all cautiously optimistic for the future of these plants given their vulnerability to drought, fire, and the disturbance or browsing by native and introduced animals.”

Ms Antrobus and DSE Biodiversity Officers will continue to proactively manage both known populations of the species.

The area has since been fenced off to protect the plants from deer browsing, wallows and rubbing.  This project is supported by Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority with funding from the Australian Government's Caring for our Country Bushfire Recovery Program.

RBG’s Neville Walsh said the discovery of a second population takes some pressure off the only other known population.

“Being in the same catchment as the original population suggests that further searches may yet unearth more populations of this plant.”

1x White Frangipani– Value $80.00 - please note picture is for illustration purposes only, your plant will differ, all proceeds go to the Hope From Ashes charity to assist those rebuilding their lives after the Toodyay Fires of December 2009

EBay item 300394523788

1x white Frangipani – Value $80.00 Plumeria pudica (white frangipani) is perhaps the best Plumeria available today. They are very easy to grow, and bloom heavily for a long time. The flowers also have a light fragrance. This Plumeria requires lots of direct sun and drier conditions most of the year. Normally evergreen in warmer locations. They can use a little water during the warmer months, something like once every 10-15 days if it doesn't rain. During the winter freezing temperatures should be avoided the plant can be kept drier with waterings every 4 weeks or so. Plumerias don't like wet soil, therefore good drainage is important. Fertilization should be done primarily during the warmer months when the plant is actively growing. Fertilize with the approximate 1-1-1 ratio are preferable. ( Value $80) Provided by Tass 1 Trees
