I am sharing my Golden Rule for a successful creative life in my blog tonight. All creative people know, there is never enough time to 'do it all'. We have to make choices. Where do we start?

'Speaking in our own voice, telling our own story', is an excellent starting point and this is where a friend of mine, Carol Willis, also a talented writer has begun.  Carol is speaking in her ‘own voice’, and talking about something she knows about, her own life, and as a guest poster in one of my blogs, she spoke of her own country. This is to me what makes someone a good blogger, someone with an original story to tell.

You can read Carol’s Blog at ; "Modern Woman's Guide".

Now I have read many self help articles, about how to be a better blogger and honestly I could never go that fast paced though my lifestyle and blogging to be able to  incorporate all the ideas into my blogs. I would hate to lead life with the, Cobra radar detectors turned on as I rounded every corner. Seriously by the time I did all that networking, reading and commenting on all the ‘right’, blogs and belonging to the bloggers groups, I would not have the time to lead the life, which is the very essence of my blogs.

Here I am daring to dispute the advice of the blogging kings and queens and say many  of their ideas do not suit me.  By not networking a great deal, I have time to lead an interesting life and that then provides me with limitless things I love to share with people.  Blogging flows easily for me because lots of things happen in my day that I love to share. I love sharing my life. I love writing. I love blogging.

I am breaking all the rules and making my blogs what I want them to be.  Guess what, those are the sorts of blogs, I do manage to find time to read. I read blogs where people are sharing a life and an expertise that they are living, not reading about, in other people’s blogs.

We only have so much time in a day; none of us has time to be the perfect blogger.

How do we decide, from all the advice out there, how we will write and promote our blog?

The answer is different for each of us. I decided a long time ago, back when I was an artist with my own art gallery, that I could not ‘do it all’.

This is the rule I chose to live my creative life by-

“Do what you do best, and let the others do the rest.”

Kathy, that was so well said...many bloggers get so tied up with reading, commenting and networking that you can actually see the dip in the standard of what they write...by just doing what you do, and doing it well - you get the pleasure of ENJOYING what you're doing!

(((hugs)))

Thanks Tina and Carol. :-).
What I suits me about that rule, is that it stops me from being a poor imitation of others I admire it and it encourages original blogs drawn from individual lifestyles and yes, it makes for better blogs. It does not halt our learning from others but makes us an eclectic learner where we take from those ideas we learn and put it all together to form our own style, our own way of doing things.
These is so much to see and do in life, I am stunned that some live inside other people's blogs and just copy what they do. I love encouraging others to lead thier own lives, love it and write it :-).
